I have found that even 5th graders still seem to struggle with equation vocabulary: Product, sum, difference, etc.
So, I made Parts of an Equation which contains a fold-up for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. This resource is the perfect resource for their math journals. Students will be allowed to use the foldables as a resource when completing math assignments.
With so many word problems asking for the sum or product, a student that doesn’t understand the vocabulary has no change of solving the problem accurately. Story problems are challenging enough, but if a student isn’t able to determine which operation to perform based on the vocabulary used they are doomed from the very start. That is why putting this resource in their hands is so benefical!
