Cool FREE Website — Linoit

I was introduced to what I think is a really cool website earlier this week and I wanted to share it with everyone.  The site is called Linoit…it calls itself a ‘sticky and photo sharing’ site.

I think it will be a great way to collect my student’s ideas on various topics.  I currently have a link on my website for the first Linoit board we will use this year.  When a student clicks on the link it takes them to a sticky note board I created.  (If you visit the link, please don’t write on my board, lol!)  Anyway, our first day of school is just a half-day.  After showing them my website, I will explain the linoit board.  I will then assign as homework (for the afternoon) that each of them posts a sticky note with what they are looking forward to this upcoming school year.

This is, of course, just to get them acquainted with the site.  From there I see many uses for this site:  Kids record questions they might have about something they are reading.  Record facts as they read.  Place to post bucketfiller positive comments for classmates, etc.

Of course, like anything, it can be over done and if so the kids will likely come to dislike using it, but in moderation I think it a GREAT tool for upper grades.  Hope my posting inspires you to come up with your own ideas…if you do, please leave a comment…I’d love to hear how you envision using it in your room.
